A spiritual biography of the "father of modern missions," Hudson Taylor's Spiritual Secret poses the question: What empowered Hudson Taylor's ministry in China? The answer: a fierce faith that believed God truly would fulfill the promises in His Word. Written by the missionary statesman's son and daugher-in-law, this book is intended for Christians who "need and long for just the inward joy and power that Hudson Taylor found." Hudson Taylor's secret, it turns out, is available to any who call on Christ's name.
"An easy, non-self-denying life will never be one of power," Taylor said. "Fruit-bearing involves cross-bearing. There are not two Christs--an easygoing one for easygoing Christians, and a suffering, toiling one for exceptional believers. There is only one Christ. Are you willing to abide in Him, and thus to bear much fruit?"<

love it May 23, 2010
one of the most provoking men i have ever read about. although the book is old and some of the language takes some getting used to, the power of God shines through and really left me asking questions and seeking after God and His Kingdom. highly recommended!!! =)

I'm sure I will enjoy reading this great book. Shipping and delivery went well.
Life Changing Apr 18, 2010
When I got this I went straight to the middle looking for the "spiritual secret," rather than reading the whole story. I knew most of Hudson Taylor's story because many of my most spiritual and committed friends have read it.
I turned right to it. It was worth it. Hudson Taylor's not the first to say it, but it's well said.
Every spiritual person I know recommends anything by or about Hudson Taylor. I do, too.
One of those books that really does change your course of thought and action Feb 9, 2010
Oh, what a blessing this book was! Hudson Taylor was a man convinced of the trustworthiness of his Father, hence, he was a man of great faith. He counted disbelief and fear as they truly are, a grave affront to a faithful God. With faith, love for the Lord, and compassion for the lost, the Lord accomplished much through this man.
Would highly recommend for any Christian who would increase his/her trust in our Lord.
A few Hudson Taylor quotations from the book that encouraged me:
"I notice it is not difficult to remember that [my children] need breakfast in the morning, dinner at midday, and supper at night. Indeed I could not forget them if I tried. And I find it impossible to think that our heavenly Father is less tender and mindful of his children than I, a poor earthly father, am of them. No, he will not forget us!"
"There are plenty of ravens in China, and the Lord could send them again with bread and flesh . . . Let us see that we keep God before our eyes; that we walk in His ways and seek to please and glorify Him in everything, great and small. Depend on it, God's work, done in God's way, will never lack God's supplies."
"We have to do with One who is Lord of all power and might, whose arm is not shortened that it cannot save, nor His ear heavy that it cannot hear; with One whose unchanging Word directs us to ask and receive that our joy may be full, to open our mouths wide, that He may fill them. And we do well to remember that this gracious God, who has condescended to place His almighty power at the command of believing prayer looks not lightly on the bloodguiltiness of those who neglect to avail themselves of it for the benefit of the perishing."
Great story Feb 23, 2009
This story has without a doubt changed my life. The faith that Mr. Taylor had was incredible. I won't give any examples because I don't want to spoil it. :) But I can say that you will not be disappointed. I have read many many missionary stories and must say that this is my second favorite; my favorite is Missionary Patriarch: The True Story of John G. Paton, which I also highly recommend. God used Mr. Taylor in such a powerful way, not only in his own ministry, but also in the lives of those who have read it. After reading this story, I can say with confidence that your faith will be strengthened by it.
